Each to Our Soulful Own

We can make of this life whatever we wish. On that we can all agree. We can weep for what is happening all around us or we can hide our eyes and pretend that all is well, that everything is perfect, that whatever problems there are in the world, they are not our concern. Indeed, we can make of this life whatever we wish, however, our choices are not without consequence. What we personally make of what is going on in the world contributes to creating a major difference, not just in our own lives, but in the lives of billions of others eventually. To stand idly by as some of our fellow human beings are being slaughtered, for example; to stand idly by as the stock market plunges and our pensions tank; to stand idly by, saying not a word, as an unelected government outsider slashes the federal workforce and tells elected lawmakers what to support and what to oppose is making our country a much more dangerous place; to stand idly by is not just irresponsible in the extreme, it is unconscionable.

One’s conscience is the divine essence within us. It is the soul itself and while it is perfectly right and good that each of us may live, think and do as we wish (so long as we cause no physical nor psychological harm to others), what we can accept in terms of the behavior of others is not without consequence either.

Of course, we are free to choose to ignore politics altogether and focus our interest and energy on things like sport, movies, music, cuisine, gardening and game playing and so on, there does come a time, like it or not, when ignoring the political realities in one’s own country can prove detrimental to one’s own immediate welfare.

What is happening with the wars in Ukraine and in Gaza have repercussions for all of us, no matter where we live. Trump is not solving those wars; he is not doing it in a matter of days as he promised to do when he campaigned for the presidency, nor has he accomplished this as the weeks and months have ticked by. He is only fomenting chaos in the world with his ludicrous trade wars and his talk of annexing, or taking over, other countries like Canada and Greenland. His belligerence and hostility toward our allies in Europe is weakening NATO, the single most stabilizing alliance since the second world war and is proving a massive godsend to Putin with his murderous and evil ways.

Yes, each to our soulful own, but if one has a conscience, how can one condone any of the many traumatic situations that are occurring around the world just now? How can one turn a blind eye? How can one not speak out!

What Americans need to do is march on Washington or one’s nearest state capitol and make their voices heard. Peaceful protest is a human and constitutional right in the USA, so let us speak up and make our voices heard. If we are not in a position to take to the street, then let us talk to friends and make our views known on social media. Let us do what we can where we can, for what is going on in the world jus now is going from bad to worse and that is as plain to see as Musk with his chainsaw.

So let’s do what we can to turn this terrible situation around and act in the best interests of democracy, freedom and peace and stability in the world. Let us not simply speak our minds unless we are speaking from our conscience, speaking from our divine essence, speaking from the soul.
